Chewton Glen

Chewton Glen is a bigger Relais&Chateaux hotels with 58 rooms and convenient located in New Milton only 2 hours from London. Based on everything I read and all it’s recognition I arrived with very high expectations.

The arrival experience was great. Very warm welcome before being escorted to the room where I did the registration. In-room registration is an important detail and a big plus in my book. With the registration card also followed two postcards which already had stamp on. Another nice detail. After the short registration I got a room orientation and was happy to find a complimentary minibar which had great fruit drinks.I stayed in one of their best suites, a Masterman Ready Suite. Chewton Glen has received a 100/100 rating in Condé Nast Traveler’s Gold List for their room categories and it’s well deserved. First, the welcome amenities was very impressive. Wine, chocolates, fruits and a handwritten welcome card. The bed was very soft and comfortable, just as I want it. I also liked the classical music that played when I entered the door and that the complimentary internet was fast. The separate sitting area was huge and it also had a working desk which was great for my writing.

The bathroom had a contemporary design and freestanding bathtub which was separate from the shower. What I loved most about the bathroom was the REN products which is my favorite product. Couldn’t be more happy with the details and choices of the room and I was excited to explore the service.

The service was really great. Lovely staff, but unfortunately mostly foreigners. I wish they had more local staff as most Relais&Chateaux’s, but that would be the only thing to point out from a fantastic experience.

Cuisine is one of the 5C’s of Relais&Chateaux and I wasn’t disappointed. Great food which easily could get a Michelin star, but Chewton Glen’s restaurant is a bit too big for that, but the quality of food is great. Both dinner and breakfast met my expectations, but service in the restaurant wasn’t as good as in the smaller hotels where it’s more personalized.

Chewton Glen is 130 acres and I took some good photos below of the buildings and public areas. It was too cold to use the outdoor swimming pool, but looked like a beautiful place to relax in the summer. The facilities included a great spa where I had a 1 hour massage treatment. It was great and the spa reception had very professional staff with a lot of knowledge. Final things to point out would be Chewton Glen’s inclusion in Condé Nast Travelers Gold List and that it’s recommended by Condé Nast Johansen, which is another marketing organization of quality hotels. Overall Chewton Glen is a world class country house I personally love. I think it’s a fantastic experience and I can’t recommend it enough.

My opinion: Fantastic experience.
