Four Seasons Hotel Mumbai

Four Seasons is one of my favourite hotel brands for many reasons and every time I step into their properties I have high expectations. The main reason is that you can always count on extraordinary service and that staff is well trained. Four Seasons Hotel Mumbai was no exception. It all started when I checked in, and the receptionist escorted me to my Four Seasons Executive Suite which was very nice and comfortable. The only thing I don’t like about Four Seasons is that most of their city hotels can be the same experience no matter where you are in the world. It felt like that in Mumbai too. Rooms, facilities and service felt pretty much like the other Four Seasons hotels and on that point I prefer Orient-Express where all hotels are different from each other.

Back to my suite. The living room had a large Tv with DVD-player, working station and nice furniture. The internet is chargeable like in any other Four Seasons, but most managers I’ve talked to wish, they could change that. As the internet in 2011 is part of our daily life, it’s like charging for pillows, and I hope the top of Four Seasons one day will realise that. The bedroom had a very comfortable bed and the same Tv and DVD-player as in the living room. As in all the other Four Seasons, I also received a handwritten welcome card from the general manager which is a nice touch.

The most important thing in a hotel is always the service, and it did not disappoint. Some people have called this one of the weakest Four Seasons, but that was not the experience I’ve had. This hotel was a better experience than Jakarta and Shanghai which I believe is the weakest in the world’s leading hotel brand. I’m sure the new general manager have improved the product. However, he can’t do anything about the location. Many people hate the views of the slum and it’s fully understandable.

The facilities is impressive as well. I loved the pool area which is an excellent place to relax after a hard day in the city. The same about the spa where I had a 30 minutes massage. The therapist was well trained and did a great job. I also like finding new details in hotels. In Four Seasons Hotel Mumbai, I found two. You have a choice of bringing your own iPod for your treatment and on checkout, they offer to send the invoice to your e-mail. I received my invoice right away, and it’s a detail other hotels could learn.

The last thing left is the concierge and breakfast. Concierge is excellent and helpful; I like their DVD list which is updated with brand new movies, and when you ask for a DVD they bring you a complimentary basket of popcorn as well. The breakfast was excellent. In the world’s best hotels I mostly have disappointing breakfast experiences, but Four Seasons did a very successful one with combined buffet and ala carte so make sure to include breakfast in your reservation.

Overall a fantastic Four Seasons. I do not understand the complaints about this hotel. I can easily live with a view of the slum when service, rooms and facilities is on such a high level. It is a perfect business hotel in Mumbai and with very impressive name recognition.

My opinion: Great experience.
