Hotel Oro Verde

The Leading Hotels of the world is one of the most trusted hotel collections. After many experiences with the collection in the past I now have a fair opinion about it. Hotel Oro Verde is the only luxury hotel in Guayaquil and many people use it for a stopover from Galapagos and so did I. The hotel is located 10 minutes from the airport and the hotel provides free shuttle service. I arrived in the hotel and was immediate escorted to the club floor for check in. I had access to their open club lounge and it was quite good. Not Ritz-Carlton level, but better than Hilton, Marriott and similar brands. After the check in I was escorted to my junior suite which was recently renovated. During my site inspection I was showed other rooms and it’s important you book a renovated room as the others looks terrible. The bathroom didn’t have separate shower from the bath tub, instead there was a big raining shower and a huge jacuzzi tub. The internet was complimentary and worked good throughout my stay. The service was good, but many staff have problems with English and it’s a problem with so many American guests. The ones that did speak English delivered fine service, but it didn’t have the level as the other Leading Hotels of the World.

Overall it was the weakest Leading Hotels of the World I have stayed in. LHW have realized they have too many hotels and Hotel Oro Verde must be one of the first to cut. It’s hard for a hotel in Guayaquil to compete with the rest of the world, but improvement is needed to keep the membership.
