Having done my research on Gambia it was fair to say Mandina River Lodge was the place I looked most forward to experience in country. My experience started with a warm welcome from the staff and a welcome drink in the bar and everything was set for my longest stay in a hotel ever. Yes, I visited The Gambia in May which is the perfect time to visit. Low season with low occupancy that made it possible for me to stay here 4 nights total. I stayed in an overwater villa which was beautiful and unique. I have only seen similar in The Northen part of Sri Lanka and everything felt lovely from the beginning.
The staff is all locals except Lawrence, the owner and Linda the manager which both are English. I found the staff warm, kind and helpful which made a difference. There are no internet available at Mandina, but according to the owner it’s not been a problem as people come to relax and as internet is available in a nearby town.
The food was better than I had hoped for. In remote places food is very important as you don’t have a second choice of going out. All my meals were great here and always with kind service. The facilities included a bar and a large, uniquely designed swimming pool which is the first thing you see upon arrival. Beautiful and a great first impression of the place.
Overall Mandina River Lodge was my best experience in Gambia. Unique accomodation in a beautiful location with great service and food makes it a truly great experience. Highly recommended for any traveler visiting Gambia looking for a unique experience you can’t have elsewhere in the world.
My opinion: Great experience.
