Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa

Shangri-La is known for its high-quality hotels. It’s somewhere between Marriott and Four Seasons and can fairly be called luxury hotels. Shangri-La Tanjung in Kota Kinabalu is good rated all over the internet, so I decided to check it out. The hotel is located only 10 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes from the city so it’s a very convenient location. I stayed in a Tanjung Executive Seaview Suite with the dimensions of 108 sqm/1162 sqft. It was an impressive suite. Two large flatscreen Tv’s, living room, dinner table, private balcony, nice designed bathroom and complimentary broadband internet as one of Shangri-La’s signatures.

The hotel has a total of 492 rooms and offers a lot of activities which makes it a perfect hotel for families. While the staff and service are not among the best in the world, they are still as friendly, and service minded as you would expect in a Shangri-La.

The facilities needs an upgrade especially because the health club area is very small. Shangri-La is aware of this and from the beginning of this month they will start updating the facilities.

Overall it’s a hotel with class and good service. It’s not among the very best in the world, but it’s worth the brand of Shangri-La and it’s a candidate for Condé Nast Traveller’s Gold List. Highly recommended for families and as the best place to stay when visiting Kota Kinabalu.
