Six Senses Douro Valley

Six Senses is a collection of hotels, resorts and spas, and is perhaps my number one favourite hotel chain because of their eco-friendly concept, design, service and overall experience. Six Senses Douro Valley is stunning 57-room hotel set in a UNESCO World Heritage setting. I stayed in a beautiful room with rain shower, double sinks and an ultra-comfortable bed, in fact, one of the best I have ever slept in anywhere in the world.

Comparing this Six Senses with other of their properties I have stayed, two significant differences come to mind. My room at this Portuguese property was smaller, but the food was better. By far the best of any Six Senses property I have stayed. A lot of effort has been made in their breakfast buffet with an egg station, while the dinner was Michelin-comparable without being fine dining.

The facilities included a lovely Six Senses spa with indoor swimming pool, different kind of steams and a sauna. The service was very impressive, and I was surprised to see the high amount of staff at the property. Six Senses has undoubtedly put in a lot of effort in securing an excellent experience for their guest. As a result, I rank this as one of the few hotels I have ranked as a fantastic experience, as it is just that.

My opinion: Fantastic experience.
