Sofitel has in the past years sold or re-branded lots of their properties to only have the great ones left. The best of the best are called Legend hotels and my first Legend experience was yesterday when I checked into the Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam. What a difference. It is up to a higher standard in all area compared with all other Sofitel hotels I have stayed and for me it mainly feels like they have a much bigger budget. Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam has 177 rooms (including 52 suites), butler service, Hermes products in the bathroom, a beautiful spa and an extraordinary breakfast.
Having listed the highlights, let me start with the check in. A warm welcome from the top professional staff before being escorted to the room where the butler welcomed me. I stayed in a lovely Junior Suite which had a quite different design compared to the other Sofitel hotels. Primary modern and not classic like most other in the Sofitel-collection. The room had a comfortable bed, high speed internet connection and as mentioned as a highlight, Hermes products. Same products as the world famous Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai uses.
Where you can really see a difference in quality is in the service level. Top professional in all departments. Front desk, on the phone, in the spa or the housekeeping at turn down service. I am not a big fan of butler service, but I have to say the Brazilian butler I had was very professional and the butler service would surely be a great addition to the service for many guests.
The facilities included a SoSPA where the facilities are complimentary for hotel guests to use. The facilities also featured meeting and conference rooms, a fine dining restaurant, a garden and a beautiful library located next to the lobby.
Overall this hotel is surely the best Sofitel hotel I have stayed. In a league of it’s own and comparable with hotels in the more prestigious hotel collection.
My opinion: Great+ experience.
