With 171 rooms The Residence is quite a large resort, and I did not have too high expectations for the service before arrival. It’s hard to deliver attention, personalised service and remember guests names when you have over 300 guests.
I arrived at the hotel and had a welcome drink and towel, but it took very long time before they escorted me to my room. I stayed in a Colonial Ocean View Room, and it was quite nice, but nothing truly special, but indeed very colonial. I think their welcome letter is misleading as they call their butler service a personal butler, but it’s not. A personal butler is one that only takes care of one room, but in The Residence one butler takes care of many rooms. The butler service was very good, but it’s not a personal one. The service was overall very good, but for the extremely high rates, you would expect more.
The facilities and food were very good. I liked their beautiful swimming pool and the view of the property itself. You can’t find a more colonial resort in Mauritius, and it lives up to the name of being The Residence.
Overall a nice experience, but at a high price. It all depends on what rate you can find, but for the money paid you do get a very comfortable experience.
My opinion: Great experience.
