The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort is a big 377-room hotel located on Saadiyat Island which is connected to Abu Dhabi. The check in experience was not pleasant as I was asked to take a seat and wait for it to be my turn to check in. 377 room is a lot, but while the check in was a bad impression, the room was very pleasant. The biggest surprise was the complimentary high speed internet access as this was the first time I’ve seen it in a Starwood hotel. The room was a Standard Room, but up to the standards of St. Regis with it’s classical design, freestanding bathtub, comfortable bed and Rèmede products in the bathroom.
The St. Regis promote their Food&Beverage in their own hotel description on Tripadvisor and that is for a reason. I had dinner in their South East Asian restaurant called Sontaya and it was great. Very kind service from the staff which all were Asian. I found the breakfast to be very good, not great. Again, it’s a point where being a big hotel becomes a big minus. Having to wait long time at a breakfast buffet is not pleasant. The service was in general professional and the hotel feels well-managed, but the problem is the size and therefore waiting time. The facilities included a beautiful spa where I had a great Thai-massage which is highly recommended. They run quite a few promotions making it more affordable for the guests that already can afford to stay in the hotel.
The bottom line is that St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort in many ways are up to the usual St. Regis standards and are a great experience. It could have been truly great if they had focused more on creating the best possible experience than highest amount of revenue.
My opinion: Great experience.
