When Villa Mandarine opened in 2001, it became an important addition to the best hotels of Rabat, the capital of Morocco, which had a long need for a smaller quality hotel. Today, Villa Mandarine remains one of the few great hotels in Rabat as Morocco’s best hotels mainly are in more touristic places such as Fes and Marakesh.
Villa Mandarine is located in a lovely quiet residential area close to many embassies, which I had to visit, in order to get my visas for this trip. My experience started with a warm welcome at the front desk and a drink before being escorted to my room. I stayed in a Deluxe Room which had a quite authentic design, comfortable bed, sitting area, flatscreen Tv and finally a balcony with beautiful views of the garden. The internet is complimentary at Villa Mandarine and quite fast. I was able to do all my work. Upload my YouTube videos and articles and that was really a pleasant surprise. There are 36 rooms total at Villa Mandarine, all personally designed by the owner Claudy Imbert.
The staff are very kind and the front desk staff spoke English, while others such as the housekeepers only spoke Arabic and French. It is really valuable to speak French in Morocco as most don’t speak English. I would point out two things that makes Villa Mandarine special. It’s quite location in a capital city and the food. The food here was really great. My dining experience was worth a Michelin recommendation, though not a star, if I had to rank it. High quality of food and ingredients.
The rooms are non-smoking, but all public indoo areas unfortunately have smoking areas which is totally unnecessary as most hotels and resorts in Morocco don’t allow it. It made me decide to have room service instead of sitting in the restaurant. I hate second hand smoke more than anything and hope the policy will be changed. That would be the only negative to point out of a beautiful hotel experience.
Finally I have to mention the facilities. A spa with jacuzzi and hammam, a bar, billiard room and finally a heated pool. The bottom line is that Villa Mandarine is one of the best places, if not the best place, to stay in the capital of Morocco. It is not among the best hotels in the entire Morocco as there are truly world class hotels, especially in Marrakesh, but it’s a beautiful hotel experience I can highly recommend and are happy to rate “Great”.
My opinion: Great experience.
