Villa Principe Leopoldo is one of the biggest Relais&Chateaux’s and one of the few city hotels in the collection. It offers excellent views of Lugano, but at a price.
I arrived in the afternoon and was immediately to the room. I stayed in a Garden Suite and was overall comfortable. Great views, soft bed and complimentary internet access. The design was contemporary, but there wasn’t much unique about it as I had seen it all before. The facilities included a great spa where I had a very nice treatment.
Relais&Chateaux has high standards for the food and Villa Principe Leopoldo exceeded my expectations. They don’t have a Michelin star, but my dinner was on the same level as the 2 star Michelin restaurants I have eaten in. Great service and food and Michelin have to honour this restaurant with a star as soon as possible. The overall service level in the hotel was high, but felt in some ways like a business hotel. That also have to do with the size.
To sum up, it’s definitely one of the biggest Relais&Chateaux, but it has the 5C’s all the way and I really wonder why they haven’t received a single Michelin star. It’s an experience staying in Villa Principe, but probably more so having the cuisine.
My opinion: Great experience.
