W South Beach

Based on my experiences with W in the past I really like the brand, but the quality vary a lot. W South Beach is the most expensive W hotel in USA and I had high expectations before my arrival. Because if you charge $500 dollars pr. night you’ll have a big problem if you don’t offer your guest a pleasant experience. After my stay I’m sad to conclude W South Beach have a big problem. It’s very overpriced and service is bad. It all started when I arrive for check in and there was a queue at the reception with only 2 receptionist. I had to wait 5 minute before I was able to check in, completely unacceptable and disorganized. As a Platinum member of Starwood Preferred Guest I was upgraded to a Fantastic Suite and I agree with the name. The suite had a very contemporary and lovely design. The sitting area were seperate from the bedroom and I always like that. Furthermore there was great view of South Beach from the suites’ balcony. The only thing I didn’t like was the bed. It was not the signature bed I’ve had in other W hotels and I wonder why.

Through my stay I was surprised how the hotel could charge $500 for a night in a hotel with disorganized service. I went through the lobby area many times during my stay and there was always a queue for the reception and concierge. The bar area had the same problem in the evening and it took long time to get a $20 bill changed. Furthermore I didn’t like the staff’s attitude. This is a problem and you can read about these problems on Tripadvisor as well. The design everywhere in the hotel is lovely and if this is what you want and don’t care about the service this is a great choice. For me service is the most important thing in a hotel and therefore this hotel have a lot of work to do. New management might be an idea because everything was very disorganized. This is without a doubt one of the most overpriced hotels in the world and I can only recommend it if bad value isn’t a problem.
